Mouse Control - Prevention and Elimination

Mice like rats are nocturnal. A mother mouse’s litter size on average is 10 to 12. They have a keen sense of hearing, smell, taste, and touch, however there vision is poor. They use these heighten senses to constantly explore and learn about their surroundings and they memorize their pathways, and food sources. Adult mice are about 1 to 2 inches in length not including the tail and weigh up to one ounce. As the outside temperature drops mice seek warmer living areas indoors for nesting and will eat almost any type of food. Since mice can fit through openings as small as 1/4 inch in diameter, it’s virtually impossible to completely mouse-proof any building.
A successful rodent control program uses an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, focusing on sanitation (removing food/water), exclusion (sealing entry points like holes & cracks), monitoring, and targeted lethal control (traps/rodenticide) for infestations, combining these methods with education to prevent recurrence and protect public health. Key steps include inspecting, identifying attractants, sealing access points, using bait stations or traps, and ensuring consistent sanitation and monitoring.
